_New Years Resolutions | Hair Journey

Picture
I feel I have really come far in my hair journey. I thank God for pointing me in the right direction at the right time. I don't think I would have been patient enough with my hair even if I knew what I know now, as a teen! I know I would have quit after 1 month!

Here I am, 3 years later, with hair reaching for Hip length...a length I never thought possible in my life. To be completely honest, I thought APL was it! Imagine my surprise when APL came in 4 months of starting my journey and full APL in another 2 months! Well, that became a short-term goal.

Each year, I have kept a paper journal for my hair and skin journey. My hair has responded very quickly to any changes (for the better) that I have made to my regimen. My skin is another matter!

Hair Journals | Why they help?

Firstly, I must say, I am not a daily journal keeping person!

I write a few words in bullet-point style on random days and I only write the month and year at the top.....not very consistent, huh?!

However, I knew the world of healthy hair had WAY TOO MUCH to offer me in one big bite. And so, I made a ringbinder with sections on detangling, relaxing/texlaxing, breakage remedies, deep conditioning and clarifying. This was all from a "relaxed hair" viewpoint.

As my hair thrived, I bought an A5 -sized notebook to write what techniques I would plan to employ in the coming year, month, week. Obviously, I need these prompts less and my routine is pretty settled now. And along the way, I decided to go natural.

When you start out, this is indispensible! Why? You can document at the end of the month/year what did NOT work for your hair and list what your regimen staples are!

Hair Resolutions | Are you kidding?

In a word, "no". I would set resolutions (backed with prayers) like "Waist length hair in 2010" (didn't happen but hey, I got there eventually).

Another thing I would do is focus on something new each season. For instance, I tried Ayuverdic hair oils in Spring 2011. I also tried some more Natural hair butters in Autumn 2011. Buns in Winter and twists in Summer. These were all bullet points with tick boxes.

So with all that said, what are your 2012 hair resolutions? What techniques do you want to try out?
