Hair goals: the length you want!

Picture
When I first embarked on my haircare journey, I'll be honest, for me, I wanted LONG HAIR. It was ALL about the length! I was inspired by the fotki pages of other black women who had grown their hair to dazzingly proportions.
However, I quickly realised that the healthy hair grows stronger. And stronger hair retains length. Of course, it was all in the handling of the hair. I know that now.
To actually commit to this, I needed something to look forward to. At first, it was hair past my shoulders....perhaps in line with my armpits at the back (armpit length, also known as APL). This galvanised me to start strong and continue. I was prepared to wait a while. I had read with each woman, it took dedication and patience to reach each goal.

I sailed to APl withing 4-5 months and was now excited. My hard work was already paying off! So what next? BSL hair, of course (bra-strap length to the uninitiated).
Looking at charts like the above really helped me, and I hope it will help you too. It gave me a picture of where the hair should fall. I also went online and looked at pictures of celebs to keep as inspiration ( like, Zoe Saldana's MBL hair).

So pick an ultimate goal length (this may take a couple of years to reach). Then pick an interim length as a short-term goal, say in 6 months, I want to be at ___ length on the way to my ultimate length!

Next up! Hair goals: healthier hair!

My grandma does not really like it whenever I grow out my hair. I have always wanted my hair to be very long up to my buttocks, but I can never do it because my grandma would always force me to go to the salon to have a haircut. She says that it is too long and unhealthy. I do not know why I want my hair long, but I just find it very pretty. It kind of reminds me of my Barbie dolls when I was a little girl.

    Hey there!
I'm Lola - a hair obsessed doctor who stumbled into running long distances and baking all the cupcakes.

I blog about life, running and of course, hair! I'm an AltraRunCrew sponsored Athlete and a "RADRabbit" with Rabbit athletic gear, so I will do the occasional running shoe review.
