Who cares what you think? Hair hating comments!
When embarking on our hair journeys, we get to the point where others - usually those close to us - decide to pipe up and share their "take" on your new ideas and plans for your hair.
For instance, when I discovered that I'd been unknowingly rocking braid-outs after single braid or cornrow installs, I rocked it for a day or two longer. Imagine my surprise when I got a caustic remark from my father about getting something done with my hair! He - who had been a champion of my hair vs. scissor-happy hairdressers - actually had a problem with a more "natural look" to my hair. Needless to say, I let that comment go.
Fast forward to me on my transitioning journey, he now sends any messages about my hair through my mother! Some folks will never learn!
As a teen, such remarks were crushing and I would have me running straight to my blow-dryer! Now, I see it as a "you do you and I'll do me!" moment.
Have you had odd (or funny) comments about your hair from friends and family? How do you deal with these?
